The value of single nutrients in combating viral infections, food safety, changes in the food chain (from the field to the industry and distribution), and the related socioeconomical consequences, as well as new emerging scenarios will be detailed in this issue dedicated to “Nutrition within and beyond coronavirus”. Within this context, nutrition is being affected at all stages of the food chain worldwide. In spite of the enormous gathering of scientific data, interpersonal distancing (in various forms and expressions) still represents the most effective and affordable measure for people to adopt. The unexpected and astonishing COVID-19 pandemic that the world has been facing since the end of December 2019 represents an extreme outcome of globalization, which has expanded exponentially in recent decades.
